Skyscraper

Skyscraper roared to first place on the international chart, thanks mostly to its debut in China. Overall, it earned $77.8 million in 68 markets for totals of $135.7 million internationally and $182.8 million worldwide. It opened in first place in China with $48.11 million over the weekend for a total opening of $48.51 million. The second biggest new market was Colombia, where it earned $1.38 million on 195 screens. Its best holdover was in Mexico where it was down 50% to $1.68 million on 815 screens for a two-week total of $7.46 million.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again opened in second place with $42.4 million in 43 markets. The biggest of these markets was the U.K., where it earned $12.73 million in 690 theaters. It also did well in Australia ($5.07 million in 318 theaters) and Germany ($4.45 million in 787). Not surprisingly, it was a big hit in Sweden, where it earned $2.78 million in 202 theaters.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation slipped to third place with $38.79 million on 14,651 screens in 67 markets for totals of $116.47 million internationally and $208.17 million worldwide. Its best new market of the weekend was Germany, where it earned $3.23 million on 1,213 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $5.36 million. Its best market overall was Mexico where it earned $3.96 million on 2,615 screens for a two-week total of $16.88 million.

Incredibles 2 climbed to fourth place with $36.5 million in 42 markets for totals of $383.1 million internationally and $940.8 million worldwide. It dominated the South Korean box office with $8.52 million on 1,605 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $10.29 million. This is the biggest opening for a Pixar film in that market.

Dying to Survive fell from first to fifth place with $27.11 million over the weekend for a total of $426.74 million, all of which was earned in its native China.

Ant-Man and the Wasp slipped out of the top five, but still earned $21.6 million in 46 markets for totals of $188.9 million internationally and $353.9 million worldwide. This weekend, the film opened in France with $4.1 million over the weekend for a total opening of $4.5 million, including previews. This is 21% better than the first film’s weekend opening in that market. That doesn’t sound like an impressive gain; however, the first film opened on the Bastille Day public holiday weekend.

We continue to track Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which landed in seventh place with $17.6 million in 66 markets for totals of $813.8 million internationally and $1.198 billion worldwide. The film fell 38% during its second weekend in Japan earning $6.74 million over the weekend for a two-week total of $31.63 million. The film is in 16th place on the all-time list and it should overtake Iron Man 3 for 15th place on that list.
