Theater Averages: 2001 is Louder than the Competition

Hearts Beat Loud

2001: A Space Odyssey returned to the top of the theater average chart earning an average of $18,969 in 5 theaters. The best new release was Hearts Beat Loud, which was right behind with an average of $18,631 in four theaters. Won’t You Be My Neighbor? was next with an average of $16,394 in 29 theaters. It won’t need to expand to earn more than $1 million domestically, and it will expand over the coming weeks. The final film in the $10,000 club is the overall box office leader, Ocean’s 8, with an average of $10,038.

The next best new limited release was Half the Picture, which earned $6,581 in its lone theater. On the Seventh Day was right behind with an average of $6,397 in two theaters. Believe opened in 32 theaters earning an average of $4,582. The Quest of Alain Ducasse is playing on VOD, so opening with $2,711 in one theater isn’t a bad start.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Pandas got to $2 million late in the weekend and given its legs, it still has a real shot at $3 million.
  • It took six weeks for Beirut to go from $4 million to $5 million. That’s as far as it will go.
