September 20, 2017
Brad’s Status led the way on the theater average chart with an average of $22,480 in four theaters. It was the only holdover in the $10,000 club earning an average of $14,490. The only other member of the $10,000 was Ex Libris: The New York Public Library, which earned $10,926 in one theater over the weekend and $16,308 from Wednesday through Sunday. It won’t expand significantly, because it is a documentary, but the distributor should be very happy with this result.
The rest of the new limited releases ranged from weak to awful. The best of the rest was The Force, which only managed an average of $4,875 in four theaters. Time to Die earned $3,411 in its lone theater. The final film to avoid the Mendoza Line ($2,000/theater) was Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards, with an average of $2,729 in three theaters.
The rest of the new releases missed the Mendoza Line, some by large margins. Because of Grácia earned an average of $1,630 in 32 theaters. May it Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers was next with an average of $1,313 in 8 theaters, while Red Trees managed an average of $1,112 in 9 theaters. Extraordinary Ordinary People and Dayveon were neck-and-neck with averages of $744 and $744 respectively. Vengeance: A Love Story only earned an average of $411 in 11 theaters, but it was on Video on Demand. Finally, there’s Abracadabra and its $212 average in 10 theaters.
