DVD and Blu-ray Releases for March 10th, 2015

It's a short list this week for two reasons. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1's DVD and Blu-ray Combo Pack came out on Friday and this scared away the competition. This is also partially due to the fact that I'm dealing with what is clearly an alien disease. Friends came over on Saturday and one of them must have been infectious, because on Sunday my mouth tasted like salt. I Googled reasons why that could happen (never a good idea) and it turns out it could be from an infection. I used some Listerine to get rid of whatever bacteria was causing it, but the salty taste overpowered the flavor of the Listerine. That tells you how strong the salty taste was. The next day, the salty taste wasn't as bad, but my throat was killing me. I figured it was Strep throat. The next day, the salty taste was gone, my throat felt fine, but my sinuses were so clogged that the sinus pressure was making my teeth hurt. The next day, the sinus pressure was down dramatically, but I had sneezing attacks ever few minutes, including while I was trying to sleep. Today, the sneezing isn't as bad, but I have a bad cough and it feels like I broke a rib while sneezing. Clearly this isn't a normal cold, but instead I believe I am the subject of an alien experiment. Regardless, the best new release of the week is The Legend of Korra: Book Four: Balance and the DVD or Blu-ray is absolutely worth picking up. However, the best release on this week's list is The Tale of the Princess Kaguya. I finally got to the review of the Blu-ray Combo Pack and it is the Pick of the Week.

The usual mix of eclectic releases. None really jump out as a must have.
One of the classics in the genre; in fact, it helped create the genre in many ways. If you haven't seen it in a while, it is worth revisiting. If you are a fan of the director, John Hughes, then grabbing The Yearbook Collection is the better deal.
I'm sure there are enough people who feel nostalgic for Gobots, but the cartoon doesn't have a good reputation with most people.
Is there a large crossover audience between these two franchises?
The old DVDs in a new box. The price is cheaper, for those who waited, but that's the only really selling point.
The fourth and final season of the follow-up to Avatar: The Last Airbender. Did the show go out on a high note? Or did it fizzle? Read our review to find out.
Great show and this box set is a good deal on a price-per-minute basis when compared to most TV on DVD releases. It is certainly a good deal when compared to most TV on DVD imports.
The screener arrived on Tuesday. Even under the best of circumstances, that wouldn't give me enough time to get the review done and dealing with Alien Death Flu isn't the best of circumstances.
Fans of this franchise must be really happy that so many of the older seasons are getting released on DVD recently.
A great show for fans of police procedurals.
A Japanese film about a middle-aged businessman who gets mixed up in a BDSM society. The name comes from the Japanese rating system where R18 means you have to be 18 years old or older to see the movie. Therefore, a R100 film would be restricted to those 100 years old or older. I'm pretty sure there are rules against using MPAA ratings in advertising here, so this wouldn't fly. The reviews are excellent, but the film is too extreme for most moviegoers.
A two-part mini-series based on the Bible story. The reviews are excellent, but it is only coming out on DVD, so clearly the studio is aiming at a much older target demographic.
This film is widely considered a classic, but it has been released a number of times on the home market, so many that I'm not sure there are that many people who want it who don't already own it.
One of five Best Animated Feature-Length Film Oscar nominees. Is it as good as its accolade would indicate? Or is it aimed too much at critics and not enough at mainstream audiences? Check out our review to find out.
The latest incarnation of this franchise is better than expected. It might be the best incarnation since the original live action films.
A Canadian B-movie about an alcoholic beat cop who blacks out and while unconscious, is bitten by a werewolf. It is a silly premise, but the reviews are good enough that fans of B-movies should check it out.
