Weekend projections: Inside Out posts $100-million second weekend

Disney is projecting that Inside Out 2 will hit $100 million this weekend, although just barely (their projection is exactly $100 million). If it hits that milestone, it would be only the seventh film to do so, and the first since the pandemic—Barbie currently holds the post-pandemic record with $93 million. Inside Out 2 was off and running at the domestic box office last weekend as the animated sequel over-performed most predictions (including ours), pulling in an outstanding $154.2 million in its opening three-day frame. Possibly even more impressive yet, the film has increased its daily box office since Monday, when it posted $22.42 million in earnings. The film took in $28.83 million on Tuesday and $30.1 million on Wednesday, the latter marking the third largest non-opening Wednesday at the box office of all time. Weekend projections: Inside Out 2 powers to spectacular $155-million opening

Inside Out 2 is blasting past expectations and headed towards a $155-million opening, according to Disney’s Sunday-morning announcement. That’s comfortably more than the $146.4 million The Super Mario Bros. Movie made on its opening weekend last year, and second only to Incredibles 2 on the list of biggest opening weekends for animated movies. The Incredibles sequel opened with $182.7 million back in 2018. Mario ended its domestic run with almost $575 million, and Incredibles 2 finished its run with $608.6 million. Bad Boys: Ride or Die provided a healthy bump for the box office last weekend as the latest installment in the franchise launched with $56.53 million in its opening frame. The action-comedy currently enjoys a six-day domestic total of $74.76 million while having secured over $123 million from global earnings. While the film easily topped the box office charts in its debut, it will be one and done for the Bad Boys at the top as Inside Out 2 arrives in a whopping 4,440 theaters. More...

Bad Boys: Ride or Die is powering towards a $56-million opening weekend, according to Sony Pictures’ Sunday-morning estimate. That’s down only slightly from the pre-pandemic $62.5-million opening of Bad Boys for Life, and 26% higher than our model predicted on Friday morning.
