Around the World gets a Two-Day Jump on the Weekend
June 16, 2004
Tonight Around the World in 80 Days, the remake of the 1956 original, opens in just over 2600 theatres.
This is the fourth major film for Dinsney so far this year and the previous three had a combined $300 million production budget, and probably close to half that in domestic P&A expenses. However, they only pulled in a combined $140 million, so this is almost a must win film for the studio. Unfortunately, that doesn't look likely with very poor reviews, little in the way of star power outside the cameos and smaller opening than the average blockbuster. Look for $5 million tonight and $24 million by the end of the weekend. And even that may be too optimistic.
