Incredible Start on the Home Market
March 26, 2005
As expected, The Incredibles topped the home market this week taking first place in DVD and VHS rentals, ($8.16 million and $1.48 million respectively) as well as DVD and VHS Sales. As mentioned last week, The Incredibles sold 5 million DVDs on its first day of release alone, however, no figure has been released for its weekly sales total.
Last week's winner, Ladder 49 was just behind The Incredibles this week with $8.16 million in DVD rentals and $1.46 million in VHS rentals. Next on the list is Flight of the Phoenix with $5.43 million in combined rentals, which pushed its total rentals to $21.62 million in just three weeks, or slightly more than the film earned during its entire domestic run. Next on the list was Taxi with $3.28 million and like the previous film, this one should top it's total domestic run on the home market before long. Rounding out the top five is the second new release of the week, Alfie, which brought in $2.68 million in DVD rentals and $460,000 in VHS rentals; again, this film should top it domestic total on the home market.
As already mentioned, The Incredibles was the highest selling DVD pushing Ladder 49 to second and Bambi - Special Edition to third. The Notebook remained in fourth place while Napoleon Dynamite climbed up to fifth place during its eleventh week of release.
A couple of interesting notes on the VHS side of the home market. The Toolbox Murders, which I mentioned on the latest DVD release review, managed to place in the Top Forty rentals with $100,000. And forth place on the VHS sales chart went to Robin Hood: Men in Tights… no I can't explain that either.
