November 18, 2007

Stardust fell out of the top five, but still added $5.80 million on 2327 screens in 48 markets lifting its running tally to $83.50 million. Its best market remained the U.K. where it climbed a spot to second place with $2.66 million on 459 screens for a total of $23.59 million. The film has no major openings left, but $100 million internationally is still within reach.

  • Resident Evil: Extinction saw its box office sliced in half this weekend to $5.44 million on 1726 screens in 39 markets for a total of $79.52 million. The film was hampered by the fact that it had no major openings, but drop-offs in Japan and Spain didn't help. In the former market it fell 34% to $3.55 million on 327 screens for a total of $13.16 million, which is a steep decline for that market, while in the latter it fell 51% to $953,000 on 347 screens over the weekend and $5.25 million in total.
  • Lust, Caution climbed into the top ten with just under $5.00 million on 782 screens in 12 markets for a total of $27.89 million. However, the film struggled in Germany with just $757,000 on 262 screens for seventh place while it dropped 45% in the U.K. to $1.77 million on 385 screens over the weekend and $6.25 million in total.
  • A fourth place opening in Japan helped The Bourne Ultimatum jumped into the top ten with $4.81 million on 982 screens in 24 markets for a total of $195.74 million. In that market it earned $2.95 million on 309 screens for an impressive per screen total of $9,536, which indicates strong legs. Additionally, it was down just 32% in Italy to $1.37 million on 334 screens for a total of $5.22 million. At this pace $200 million internationally is academic while it could come relatively close to matching its domestic haul depending on how well it does in China when it opens at the end of the month.
  • Saw IV fell from the top five to out of the top ten with $4.06 million on 1506 screens in 24 markets. Again the film had no major openings this week, and again is faltered in holdovers down 53% in the U.K. to $971,000 on 339 screens over the weekend and $12.07 million after three.

On the other hand, it was number one in Australia with $900,000 on 179 screens for a total of $7.28 million after a month of release. It looks like the film will earn more there than it did domestically despite the domestic box office being ten times the size of Australia's
  • The Invasion returned to the charts, barely, landing in 30th place with $1.65 million on 915 screens in 25 markets for a total of $22.01 million. The film played well in Russia earning fourth place with $887,000 on 205 screens, but there's little hope it will earn a profit anytime soon.
