International Details - Bean Takes a Holiday from the Top Five

May 27, 2007

Mr. Bean's Holiday fell one spot out of the top five this weekend despite showing some significant growth. The film did have a few openings, including a third place $165,000 debut on 56 screens in Turkey, but its biggest market was Germany where it grew 44% to $651,000 on 577 screens for the weekend and $22.52 million in total. Overall the film added $3.47 million on 2634 screens in 43 markets for a total of $176.19 million internationally with debuts in South Korea, Japan, and China, yet to come, (and of course it doesn't open here till August).

  • 28 Weeks Later fell from second to seventh with $3.13 million on 889 screens in 12 markets for a two-week total of $10.59 million. The film opened in Thailand earning second place with $204,000 on 61 screens over the weekend and $242,000 in total. Its best market for the U.K. where it remained in second place with $1.75 million on 401 screens for a total of $6.62 million.
  • Wild Hogs help up better but still fell from third to eighth with $2.86 million on 1849 screens in 31 screens for a total of $74.90 million. The film remained in second place in Germany pulling in $1.33 million on 583 screens for a total of $10.84 million in total after a month of release. Germany is one of the few markets where this film performed as well as it did domestically, but this market is well know for rewarding lowbrow comedies.
  • Unstoppable Marriage grew 7% over the weekend, which is very impressive considering the historical norms for South Korea. Over the weekend the film pulled in $2.32 million on 315 screens for a two-week total of $6.77 million.
  • Stomp The Yard returned to the charts in 10th place with $2.25 million on 425 screens in 5 markets for a total of $8.73 million. The film opened in two major markets earning fourth place in both France, ($1.40 million on 165 screens), and Germany, ($864,000 on 150). In France, its performance was better than expected, but while it earned the same placing in Germany, its start was disappointing given the film's affinity for films aimed at urban audiences.
  • Shooter fell out of the top ten with $1.70 million on 1276 screens in 48 markets for a total of $41.63 million. The film is on pace to top its domestic run, but that's still lower than expected.
  • Premonition returned to the charts in 12th place with $1.59 million on 516 screens in 5 markets for a total of $17.05 million. Most of that came from the film's second place opening in Mexico with $1.09 million on 200 screens. The film still has a number of markets left to open but it will have a hard time turning its run around.
  • Blades of Glory continues its soft run adding $1.55 million on 897 screens in 18 markets for a total of $15.16 million so far. While the film is well behind its domestic total, it is actually performing better than most Will Ferrell movies do internationally.
  • The Hills Have Eyes 2 fell to 14th place with $1.49 million on 888 screens in 15 markets for a total of $11.55 million. The film opened in a few smaller markets earning sixth in both Turkey, ($90,000 on 40 screens), and Poland, ($79,000 on 45). However, its biggest market was Spain where it held on well with $422,000 on 251 screens for a total of $1.17 million.
  • TMNT returned to the charts with $1.43 million on 1122 screens in 25 markets for a total of $34.45 million. The film is closing in on $100 million worldwide, but doesn't have many more markets left to earn it.
  • Bridge to Terabithia added $1.29 million on 771 screens in 12 markets for a total of $37.21 million.
  • Gegege No Kitaro earned $1.16 million on 309 screens for a total of $16.24 million. This was good enough for second place in Japan and 17th internationally.
  • For Those We Love was one place behind, both in Japan and internationally, earning $1.11 million on 302 screens for a total of $3.96 million.
  • Perfect Stranger's was the final film to crack $1 million this week landing in 19th place with $1.03 million on 1107 screens in 42 markets for a total of $38.77 million.
In addition, there are a number of films with updated running tallies.
