Home Market Waves the White Flag
February 17, 2007
There were seven new releases to chart this week including the new number one rental, Flags of Our Fathers, which pulled in $7.66 million during its first weekend of release.
Despite the glut of new releases, there were three holdovers in a row with The Marine coming in second place with $5.22 million. Open Season and Flyboys were neck and neck at $4.96 million and $4.74 million respectively. Two new releases were in an extremely close battle for fifth place with Flicka just beating out The Grudge 2 $4.11 million to $4.08 million.
Other new releases were led by Hollywoodland in eighth place with $3.78 million. Running With Scissors finished one place behind with $3.48 million while placing 12th was The Science of Sleep $2.80 million. Well back in 31st place was Trust the Man with $1.28 million, which is still a strong result for a limited release film.
Over on the sales side it was a direct-to-DVD sequel coming out on top as Cinderella III: A Twist in Time sold nearly twice as many DVDs as second place Flags of Our Fathers. Third went to Flicka while last week's number one seller, Open Season, fell to fourth. Rounding out the top five was out The Grudge 2.
Charmed - The Complete Seventh Season was in a virtual tie with Hollywoodland with the former just grabbing eighth place. The final new release to chart was Running With Scissors in 12th place.
