Girl has Reasonable Start on Per Theater Chart

February 6, 2007

There was only one member of the $10,000 club this week as Factory Girl pulled in nearly $90,000 in 3 theaters for an average of $29,159. However, An Unreasonable Man came awfully close with $9,813 in its lone theater.

Puccini for Beginners opened with an average of $6,690, which placed it high in the top ten. The Situation also placed in the top ten, but the fact that it did so with an average of just $3,594 showed how weak a weekend it truly was. In The Pit will end in the hole as it started with just $1,986 in one theater. Constellation tried to open way too wide and earned a mere $215,000 in 238 theaters for an average of $907. But that was still better than Raising Flagg's $636 in one venue and Fired!'s $540 average in four.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • The Good German reached $1 million late last week, but that is as far as it will go.
  • Venus continues to expand, and that helped it top $1 million over the weekend.
  • The Painted Veil made it to $5 million midweek, but it will likely shed theaters now preventing it from reaching any more major milestones.
  • Volver has made it all the way to $10 million, which is not only an amazing result for a foreign language picture, but the best box office result in Pedro Almodóvar's career.
  • Notes on a Scandal also reached $10 million this weekend. While the film has peaked at the box office, it should have little trouble hitting $15 million before too long.
  • As expected, Pan's Labyrinth made it to $20 million this weekend. In fact, it did better than expected and while I don't want to say it is a lock for $25 million this time next week, it could make it there.
