New releases dominated the rental charts taking three of the top five spots, as well as five of the top ten and the best of the best was American Gangster with $9.67 million during its opening week. Michael Clayton opened in second place with $8.17 million, which is a better result in comparison to its theatrical run. Gone, Baby, Gone was pushed into third place with $7.33 million, but with $16.19 million in rentals so far, it should top its theatrical run in very short order. We Own the Night also held well adding $6.51 million to its running tally of $14.39 million. Rounding out the top five was Rendition with $6.03 million during it's opening week, which is almost as much as it earn during its entire theatrical run.

The best of the rest was In the Valley of Elah, which landed in seventh place with $4.66 million. Chaos made its debut on the home market in eighth place with $4.35 million, which is very strong for this type of release. Lust, Caution just missed the top ten with $3.66 million while Margot at the Wedding was the final new release to chart placing 14th with $3.30 million.
