There were more than half-a-dozen films to top $10,000 on the per theater chart, including The Princess and the Frog, which earned close to $800,000 in just two theaters for an average of $393,095. Broken Embraces saw its per theater average rise by more than 10% to $58,993, which bodes well for its chances to expand. Next up was Me and Orson Welles with an average of $15,910 in 4 theaters, while The Road opened with $1.5 million in 111 theaters for an average of $13,534. A trio of top ten moves rounded out the $10,000 club with The Blind Side earning an average of $12,774, Precious took in an average of $10,680, and finally The Twilight Saga - New Moon was right behind with $10,606.

There were not a lot of new limited releases, and half of them managed to reach the $10,000 plateau. The best of the rest was De Dana Dan, which came close with an average of $8,368 and actually reached the $10,000 milestone, if you include Wednesday and Thursday. The Private Lives of Pippa Lee opened on Friday and scored an average of $7,625 in 12 theaters over the weekend. Finally, Home opened in one theater with $3,922.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • The Princess and the Frog opened with more than $1 million during its first five days of release, so obviously it reached its first milestone along the way. However, it might be more accurate to call the film a prestige release and not a true limited release.
  • The Road also opened with more than $1 million during its opening weekend, but it was playing in 111 theaters
  • As expected, An Education reached $5 million over the weekend, while it had its best weekend during its run so far. At this pace, $10 million isn't out of the question, but it will take a bit of Awards Season buzz to do so.
  • Boondock Saints 2 - All Saints Day hit $4 million just before the weekend and $5 million over the weekend. It could reach $10 million, which is a huge increase from its predecessor.
  • For the first time during its run Precious saw its weekend box office drop; however, it still reached $25 million on Friday and $30 million on Saturday, while it could reach $40 million as early as this time next week.
