Life on the Per Theater Chart

July 27, 2010

The $10,000 club was busy this weekend with five films reaching that milestone. This includes Life During Wartime with $30,507 in its lone theater. Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child also opened in just one theater and earned $17,466 over the weekend. Countdown to Zero was the second documentary in the $10,000 club with an average of $13,769 in three theaters. The Kids are All Right spent its fourth week in the $10,000 club with an average of $12,909 in just over 200 theaters. The overall box office leader, Inception, earned an average of $11,267.

The rest of the new limited releases struggled. The re-release of Orlando earned an average of $5,443 in two theaters. But Spoken Word managed just $2,343 in its single theater while Mugabe and the White African earned just $1,907, also in a single theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky reached $1 million over the weekend, but that is likely as far as it will go.
  • Exit Through the Gift Shop lasted a little longer than expected, which allowed it to earn just over $3 million at the box office.
  • I Am Love topped $3 million over the weekend and $4 million is well within reach.
  • Solitary Man surpassed $4 million over the weekend, but that's as far as it will go.
  • The Girl Who Played With Fire has now made $4 million at the box office, if you include its run in Canada.
  • The Kids are All Right earned more than $2 million over the weekend and reached a running tally of $4 million. In fact, it almost assuredly reached $5 million on Monday.
