Solitary Number One on the Per Theater Chart

May 25, 2010

Solitary Man led the way on the per theater chart with nearly $100,000 in 4 theaters for an average of $23,734. Placing second was Shrek Forever After, as the overall box office leader earned an average of $16,251. Holly Rollers opened with $40,000 in 3 theaters for an average of $13,228. The final film in the $10,000 club was The Father of My Children, which opened with $10,414 in one theater.

The next best new limited release was Deux de la Vague with $5,676 in one theater over the weekend and $8,100 since Wednesday. Kites managed a spot in the top ten with nearly $1 million, earning an average of $4,632 in over 200 theaters. 180 South and After the Cup were not as fortunate, earning averages of $2,567 and $2,501 respectively. At least they managed to top the Mendoza Line, something neither Perrier's Bounty nor Racing Dreams could do. The former earned just $828 in one theater while the latter earned an average of $653 in 33.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • Please Give topped $1 million over the weekend and should have little trouble getting to $2 million before long.
  • As expected, City Island reached $4 million since last week, but its per theater average took a real hit, so I expect it to evaporate before it comes too much closer to $5 million.
  • It took almost exactly six months, but Broken Embraces finally made it to $5 million during its limited release run.
