DVD Sales: A Secret No More
December 4, 2012
Tinker Bell: Secret of the Wings held off the new releases, all two of them, earning first place on the DVD sales chart with 360,000 units / $7.19 million for the week for totals of 1.12 million units / $20.04 million after two. Selling 1 million units is an impressive feat for a direct-to-DVD release.
The Campaign opened in second place with 324,000 units / $4.85 million. I was expecting more. Magic Mike slipped a spot to third with 257,000 units / $3.84 million for the week and 955,000 units / $14.29 million after two. This is a good running tally, not a great tally. Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted remained in fourth place with 209,000 units / $3.22 million over the past week for totals of 1.48 million units / $25.12 million after three weeks of release. This is one of the better releases for the year. Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection rounded out the top five with 128,000 units / $1.96 million for the week and 473,000 units / $7.12 million after two.
The only other new release to chart was A Christmas Story 2, which landed in 13th place with 64,000 units / $761,000. I'm not surprised it wasn't a huge hit, but it did perform better than I expected.
