International Box Office: Evil Finds a Home Worldwide

Resident Evil: Retribution debuted in top spot on the international chart with $49.61 million on 6,154 screens in 65 markets. The film opened in first place in a trio of major markets with Japan pulling in $8.63 million on 774 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $11.17 million. Russia was close behind with $8.37 million on 1,100 screens. It was was able to grab first place in Brazil with $3.15 million on 391. On the other hand, the film had to settle for second place in South Korea with $1.99 million on 368 screens over the weekend and a total opening of $2.44 million. It debuted in third place in Australia with $1.50 million on 175.
The Expendables 2 fell to second place with $23.94 million on 6,334 screens in 45 markets for a total of $189.27 million internationally and $269.68 million worldwide. It had no major market openings this past weekend, but still has Japan ahead of it, and it is already within $5 million of its predecessor's final figure.
Barfi! debuted in third place with $9.38 million. It made more than $8 million in India, but made $575,000 in the United Arab Emirates.
The Bourne Legacy slipped a spot to fourth place with $8.9 million on 4,038 million on 52 markets for an international total of $90.90 million. The film earned first place in Germany with $2.19 million on 560 screens. It still has a few more major markets to go and it should have no trouble getting to $200 million worldwide, but this is below the franchise's average.
Ted rose to fifth place with $8.5 million on 2,593 screens in 42 markets. Its international number is now $189.45 million and its worldwide total is $406.88 million. The film earned first place in Mexico with $2.14 million on 927 screens. The film still has openings in France, Italy, and Brazil and it should reach $200 million before then.
Prometheus remained in sixth place with $8.25 million on 2,675 screens in 4 markets for a total of $264.26 million internationally and $390.73 million worldwide.
Bayside Shakedown 4: The Final fell to second place in Japan and seventh place internationally with $8.21 million on 452 screens over the weekend for a total of $31.66 million.
Brave was next with $7.8 million on 5,509 screens in 40 markets for a total of $266.3 million internationally and $499.7 million worldwide. It still has South Korea ahead of it, while it has already made enough money to show a serious profit.
Masquerade opened in first place in South Korea and ninth place internationally with $7.40 million on 809 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $8.52 million.
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted returned to the top ten with $7.36 million on 2,234 screens in 36 markets for totals of $405.53 million internationally and $621.13 million worldwide. Its big opening of the weekend came in Australia where it earned first place with $4.17 million on 524 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $4.52 million.
The Dark Knight Rises just missed the top ten with $7.25 million on 4,854 screens in 62 markets for totals of $617 million internationally and $1.058 billion worldwide. It is now in the top ten on the all time chart and should get to seventh place soon.
The Avengers fell out of the top 30, but still added $1.1 million on 785 screens in 2 markets over the weekend for a total of $888.4 million internationally and $1.511 billion worldwide.
