DVD Sales: Shadows Linger On Top
July 4, 2012
None of the new releases were able to overtake Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows for top spot on the DVD sales chart. It repeated in first place with 497,000 units / $7.44 million for the week giving it totals of 1.75 million units / $26.14 million after two. It is already the fifth best selling DVD released in 2012.
The best of the new releases was Project X in second place with 394,000 units / $5.87 million. This is a very strong start given the film's production budget. Big Miracle was well back in third place with 185,000 units / $2.95 million. The film flopped in theaters and this is only a marginally better result. Act of Valor slipped a spot to fourth place with 129,000 units / $2.56 million over the week for a total of 926,000 units / $15.65 million after three. Safe House remained in fifth place with 119,000 units / $2.14 million for the week giving it a three-week total of 918,000 units / $15.93 million.
Wanderlust rounded out the top ten with 73,000 units / $1.17 million. There's no way to spin that number in a positive way. Seeking Justice just missed the top ten with 62,000 units / $966,000. This is good compared to its theatrical run, but that's damning it with faint praise.
