Blu-ray Sales: April 14th, 2013: Hobbit Stretches Its Legs

Like the DVD sales chart, there were almost no new releases to find a place on the April 14th, 2013 edition of the Blu-ray sales chart. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey rose to the top of the chart 104,000 units / $2.60 million for the week and 1.93 million units / $45.02 million after four.
Lincoln remained in second place with 75,000 units / $2.26 million for the week, giving it totals of 686,000 units / $19.93 million. This isn't bad for a drama. Les Miserables climbed one spot to third place with 59,000 units / $1.42 million over the week for a total of 976,000 units / $23.42 million. The Bible: The Epic Miniseries fell from first to fourth with just 46,000 units / $1.63 million for the week and 212,000 units/ $7.73 million after two. This is not a great run so far, but it is better than a lot of TV miniseries earn. Life of Pi earned fifth place with 45,000 units / $913,000 for the week and 722,000 units / $16.52 million after just over a month of release.
The Sorcerer and the White Snake opened in eighth place with 33,000 units / $628,000 for an opening week Blu-ray share of 37%. This is a good result for a limited release. The Baytown Outlaws barely grabbed 20th place with 12,000 units / $156,000. It only managed an opening week Blu-ray share of 21%. Even for a direct-to-DVD release, that's a bad start, Hyde Park on the Hudson only managed 22nd place with 11,000 units / $248,000. Its opening week Blu-ray share was 32%, which is great for a limited release drama.
