DVD Sales: New Releases Take a Holiday

New releases were even weaker than expected and none of them reached the top 30 of the DVD sales chart. The top five were identical to last week with Ted earning top spot for the third weekend in a row. It sold an additional 714,000 units generating $12.44 million in sales giving it totals of 3.42 million units / $57.68 million after three weeks of releases.
The Dark Knight Rises added 670,000 units / $7.17 million during the week giving it totals of 4.41 million units / $55.55 million after nearly a month of release. Pitch Perfect held on very well during its second week of release with 627,000 units / $12.51 million over the week and totals of 1.43 million units / $26.21 million. Ice Age: Continental Drift fell more than 50%, but still remained in fourth place with 275,000 units / $5.48 million for the week. After three weeks of release, the film has sold 1.49 million units and generated $24.51 million in DVD sales. For the third week in a row, Brave rounded out the top five, this time with 240,000 units / $3.60 million. The film has been on the home market for seven weeks and has impressive totals of 5.89 million units / $98.77 million, which is the second highest total units for 2012 and the third best total revenue.
The closest we have to a new release this week is Resident Evil: Retribution, which was in sixth place during its first full week of release with 212,000 units / $3.80 million for the week and totals of 308,000 units / $5.53 million.
