DVD Releases for December 14, 2004

December 13th, 2004

Every week films get a second chance at success from the home market; or, in some cases, a first chance at success. Here is a list of wide releases, limited releases and a few from the growing TV on DVD section, including the winners of the DVD Pick of the Week, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King - Platinum Series Special Extended Edition and Star Trek: The Original Series - The Complete Third Season - Buy from Amazon. More...

It Has Begun!

December 2nd, 2004

That's right, it's officially award season as the IFP Independent Spirit Awards announced their nominees. This year the leader of the pack was Sideways, which was nominated 6 times. Topping the list of studios was Fox Searchlight with 14 nominations. More...

Audiences Heart Huckabees

October 5th, 2004

Busy week on the per theatre charts as no less than five films broke the $10,000 per theatre barrier. I Heart Huckabees had the best per theatre average of the year earning nearly $300,000 in four theatres for an average of $73,044. Last week's winner, The Motorcycle Diaries held up rather well despite a sizeable expansion; its per theatre average of $16,201 in 67 theatres to pull in just north of $1 million this past weekend. The overall chart leader was next on the list; Shark Tale's $11,854 per theater average was the best for a wide release since July. Close behind was Therese with $357,000 in 32 theatres for an average of $11,156. And rounding out the $10,000 club was Dig!; the Rockumentary earned an average of $10,219 in two theatres over the weekend. More...

Red Lights Earn Some Green

September 9th, 2004

There were one or two films that managed to cross the $10,000 per theatre milestone, depending on if you counted Labor Day's box office. Taking into account the whole long weekend, Red Lights took top spot with an average of $17,802 in four theatres. While Tae Guik Gi: The Brotherhood of War missed $10,000 over the 3-day weekend, it managed $12,532 per theatre once Monday was taken into account. More...

Water Repeats Ahead of Massive Expansion

August 18th, 2004

Just a week ahead of expanding into more than 2000 theatre, Open Water repeated on top of the per theatre charts. However, it's average of $16,268 was 30% lower that last weekend, which makes repeating The Blair Witch Project's success unlikely, as that film saw its per theatre figure grow during its second weekend. The only other films to top $10,000 per theatre was We Don't Live Here Anymore with $14,471 and overall box office leader Alien Vs. Predator with $11,279 per theatre. More...

Tough Fight for Limited Releases

August 13th, 2004

Four more entries try for a slice of the limited release pie. And while there is certainly a wide range in movies coming out, it is expansion of two previously released films, Garden State and Napoleon Dynamite, that are getting all the news coverage. More...
