Normally when it comes to these box office prediction contests, we choose the movie based on which film has the best shot at coming out on top of the charts.
However, in this case that's Spider-Man 3 and no other film has a snowball's chance in Hades of winning the weekend, even if Spider-Man breaks the record for worst sophomore stint drop-off.
Instead, we are going with the widest of the modest group of limited releases, Georgie Rule.
Since none of the new releases seem likely to be box office hits, we're going with that theme and giving away some smaller films that came out during the past year, and that might have slipped under your radar.
To win, you must simply predict the opening weekend box office of Georgie Rule.
Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of Twelve and Holding and The Gathering.
Meanwhile, the person who comes the closest to the film's opening 3-day weekend (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win a copy of Unknown and Prey.
Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay!

As always, Award Season officially begins with the announcing of the
Independent Spirit Award nominations. While this is the first major awards to announce their nominations, they are one of the last to hand them out so the nominees have a long wait ahead of them.

This week's contest is early... or late. It depends on how you look at things. The contest starts two days early since they are normally published on Monday.
But is could be considered late since one of the movies involved, Man of the Year, has already hit theatres.
To win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office of Flicka. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend (Friday to Sunday), without going over will win Twelve and Holding on DVD.
While the person who comes the closest to the film's opening 3-day weekend (Friday to Sunday, without going under, will win Land of Plenty.
In addition, both winners will also take home Man of the Year posters.
Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay!

The Thanksgiving long weekend signifies the start of the holiday shopping season... Of course, that's the American Thanksgiving, which occurs sometime in November. The
Canadian Thanksgiving, which occurred this weekend, is most closely associated with the start of
Hockey season. (Have I mentioned how much I hate the
New York Rangers? I have. Good.) However, just because shopping season has officially started, doesn't mean it's a slow week.
Far from it.
This week there was a bumper crop of contenders for the DVD Pick of the Week.
I narrowed the list to two TV on DVD releases (
Scrubs - The Complete Fourth Season -
Buy from Amazon and Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law - Volume 2 -
Buy from Amazon) and two limited releases, (
Twelve and Holding -
Buy from Amazon and
A Prairie Home Companion -
Buy from Amazon).
If I was forced at gunpoint to choose just one, it would be
Scrubs - The Complete Fourth Season -
Buy from Amazon, but I can all but guarantee all four, and a few others, will end up in my DVD collection.

First of all, this headline represents the last of my Da Vinic Da puns, I promise. (On a side note, had the movie bombed I would have used Da Vinci Da Saster as the headline. Awful, isn't it?) Moving on...
The Da Vinci Code was the only film able to earn more than $10,000 per theatre over the weekend with an incredible $77.1 million in 3,735 for a per theatre average of $20,635. That was more than double the second place film, fellow wide release
Over the Hedge, which came close to making the $10,000 club with $9,475.

It was a good week for movie sites, although it's hard to tell looking just at the number of sites featured here. However, while the numbers of sites is low, the quality is very high with three sites in the running for the Weekly Website Award, (four if you include
Casino Royale -
Official Site, which I preemptively gave the award to when the placeholder site went live). Both
The Break-Up -
Official Site and
Pulse -
Official Site were also in the running, but in the end I went with
See No Evil -
Official Site. However, I expect the other two sites to win the award in later weeks.

It's a depressing week for limited releases and not only because none of the films really won over the critics. The four films all deal with subject matters that are bound to depress, or revolt moviegoers. Things are bound to pick up next week when An Inconvenient Truth opens.
