Synopsis

Mardi Gras, drag balls and politics? Where else could these elements come together but in New Orleans? Interweaving archival footage and contemporary interviews in the tradition of films such as “Paris is Burning” and “The Cockettes”, this film charts the evolution of the gay Mardi Gras krewe scene over the decades, illuminating the ways in which its emergence was a seminal factor in the cause of gay liberation in the South.

However, none of the higher profile films are earning better than average reviews. Maybe one of them will be able to ride the buzz to a strong opening weekend before word-of-mouth catches up to them, but there's also a chance none of them will attract a sizable audience over the weekend.
