We are back to a relatively normal level of DVD releases this week, including a few that are worth considering for DVD Pick of the Week.
Both 3:10 to Yuma on Blu-Ray and The Riches - Season 1 on DVD are prime contenders.
If you don't have Blu-Ray, it's the latter, while if you do, it's the former.

A handful of films crossed the $10,000 mark this past weekend led by The 11th Hour with just over $60,000 in 4 theaters for an average of $15,213. This is an impressive, but well below the opening of An Inconvenient Truth, which averaged more than The 11th Hour made in total. Send a Bullet was second with an estimated $13,000 in one theater. The overall box office leader, Superbad, placed third, averaging $11,212 in just under 3,000 theaters. The King of Kong was the only other film to top $10,000 and the third documentary to reach that milestone this weekend.
It earned just over $50,000 in 5 theaters for an average of $10,299.

Only three films were able to crack into the $10,000 club on the per theater chart.
The only new release to do so was Knocked Up, which was barely able to reach that figure with $10,690.
Second place went to The Golden Door with $10,169, while the overall number one film, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, earned third place with $10,134.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, and its record-breaking theater count of 4,362 were able to top the per theater chart this weekend with $26,303. As impressive as that was, both Shrek the Third and Spider-Man 3 opened with better averages. Paprika opened in second place with $17,797, but while that's a great start, its niche market appeal will prevent it from expanding wide. Last week's winner, Once, fell to third with $16,607, but, given the film's expansion, this was an amazing hold.
The Golden Door opened with an average of $13,872 in two theaters while Shrek the Third was close behind with $12,713.

Another slow week. If this keeps up I'm going to have to rethink my methodology. Not only were there not as many sites as I would like, there were none that really stood out as award-worthy. The best was Stardust - Official Site, but here I will wait for more of the content to be added before I make a final decision.

Looking at this week's list of limited releases and there are not many that really strike me as strong contenders for mainstream success. There is the Anime offering, Paprika, but while it has the reviews, these films are still niche market films.

Among the more than two-dozen films on this week's list, there were a few that came very close to winning the Weekly Website Award. Of the three, Spider-Man 3 - Official Site was probably the closest to winning, but in the end was brought down by high expectations.

There were a few new flash sites to launch this week, but while there might be a couple future winners among those sites, it was a long time resident on this week's list that walked away with top honors. That site was Hot Fuzz - Official Site, which probably could have won several weeks ago if the features were added all at once. However, it's much better to spread the updates out in order to get people coming back week after week.
