DVD Releases for August 24, 2004

August 23rd, 2004

Every week films get a second chance at success from the home market; or, in some cases, a first chance at success. Here is a list of wide releases, limited releases and a few from the growing TV on DVD section, including the co-winners of the DVD Pick of the Week, Futurama - Volume 4 - Buy from Amazon and The Girl Next Door - Buy from Amazon: Unrated Version. Sad Songs Sell so Well

May 5th, 2004

First the bad news; only one time in the past six weeks has any film managed to cross the $10,000 per theatre threshold. As for the good news, at least this week one movie came close. The Saddest Movie in the World, a film about a legless beer Baroness who wants to find the saddest music to improve beer sales during Prohibition. Don't worry, I'll let you re-read that last part again before I continue. The film earned an average of $9,436 in four theatres this past weekend. More...

Not Even Close

April 7th, 2004

Like last week no film could manage $10,000 per theatre, however this weekend no film even came close. The top film, Dogville, only made an average of $7,813 in its 14 theatres. The top new release was Hellboy which was close behind with $7,653. More...

Close, but no Cigar

March 31st, 2004

No team could muster $10,000 per theatre this weekend, but two movies came awfully close. Bon Voyage, last week's winner, took top spot with an impressive $9,879 average in 6 theatres. Just $6 behind was Dogville which opened in 9 theatres. More...

Widest Weekend in a While for Limited Releases

March 26th, 2004

It's a very good week for limited releases, not just in the number of new movies, but also in the number of theatres. Usually a movie opens in one on theatre in either New York or Los Angeles so people outside those cities don't have a chance to see it. This week there are five new releases, four of which are opening in multiple theatres. And with only one wide release even coming close to overall positive reviews, this is a great week to check out a limited release. More...
