DVD Releases for April 18, 2006

April 17th, 2006

It's another really slow week for DVD releases, with only a few that even come close to being contenders for DVD Pick of the Week. The best of the bunch and the one mostly likely to please a wide audience is Mrs. Henderson Presents - Buy from Amazon. On the other hand, the one I'm looking forward to the most is Event Horizon - Special Collector's Edition. Meanwhile, I'll probably pick up Remington Steele - Season 3 for Mother's Day, whenever that happens to be. More...

Syriana Strikes it Rich

November 29th, 2005

Syriana made an unbelievable start over the Thanksgiving weekend, earning just shy of $375,000 in 5 theatres for a per theatre average of $74,900 — easily the best over the weekend. Last week's winner, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was pushed into second place with an average of $14,185 in 3858 theatres, which would have been an impressive opening for most blockbusters. More...

Potter Tops the Per Theatre Charts

November 22nd, 2005

The overall box office champ, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was also the leader of the Per Theatre Charts with an amazing $26,525 in 3,858 theatres. There were only two other films in the $10,000 club and they were Classe Tous Risques at $11,945 and Breakfast on Pluto at $11,093; the latter result is even more impressive since it was a Wednesday release. More...

Limited Releases: Potter Doesn't Scare Away Competition

November 18th, 2005

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire might be a monster hit, but that doesn't seem to have scared indie distributors, and there are plenty of films opening in limited release this weekend. On the other hand, only three of those films are opening in more than 1 theatre. More...
