Synopsis

On the surface, Leslie Vernon seems like your average small town, nice guy. He has goals, ambition and aspirations to follow in the footsteps of his long-time hero Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers and Jason Vorhees, and be the world’s next great psycho-slasher. A true self-promoter, Leslie gives documentary filmmaker Taylor Gentry and her crew exclusive access to his life as he plans and executes his next great reign of terror over the sleepy town of Glen Echo, all the while deconstructing the constructions and archetypes of the horror genre for them.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for December 8th, 2009

December 8th, 2009

According to Amazon, there are about 300 DVDs and Blu-ray being released or re-released this week and about half of them are Harry Potter releases. Well, maybe not, but it almost feels that way. The only one of these that is really worth picking up is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - Blu-ray; in fact, it is the DVD Pick of the Week. Also sharing that honor is The Cove on DVD, Julie & Julia on DVD or Blu-ray, and Lost - Season Five on Blu-ray. My bank account is going to take a big hit this week. More...

DVD Releases for June 26, 2007

June 26th, 2007

It's a relatively soft week for cream-of-the-crop releases, but what this week's selection it lacks in top quality it sadly more than makes up for with mediocre offerings. None of the first-run releases were of much interest, limited releases only produced a few DVDs worth a second look, and even big name TV on DVD was mostly lacking in the must-have department. It took an obscure release from the U.K., The New Statesmen to win that coveted honor. More...

Namesake Goes for Hat Trick

March 20th, 2007

Namesake was the top film on the Per Theater Chart for the second weekend in a row with an average of $17,440 in its 41 theaters. Second place went to the only newcomer in the $10,000 club, Hat Trick with $15,500 in its lone theater. The only other film to crack $10,000 was the overall box office leader, 300, which just managed that feat with $10,054. More...

Fetching Limited Releases

March 16th, 2007

A big list of limited releases this weekend, not so much in the number of films but in the number of theaters. Five of the seven films on this week's list have opening theater counts in the double-digits with a couple opening in more than six dozen. This means that even with little overlap in target audiences, at least one will be squeezed out at the box office. On the other hand, Fido has Canada pretty much to itself when it comes to limited releases. I've seen more ads for that movie up here than I have for Premonition. More...
