Quantum of Solace exploded over the weekend. It expanded into a total of 60 markets and more than doubled its opening weekend box office. In fact, it earned a rare feat by topping the century market with $107.29 million on 10,079 screens in 60 markets for a still early total of $161.11 million. This includes first place openings Germany where it made $15.15 million on 814 screens, while it remained in first place in the U.K. with $14.53 million on 541 screens over the weekend for a total of $49.54 million.

In all 60 markets Quantum of Solace is playing in, it is ahead of Casino Royale's pace. In many cases it has earned more than double the previous film's box office at the same point in its run. If it can keep up this pace, $500 million internationally is well within range while $600 million is not out of the question. Regardless, it is aiming to become the biggest hit of the year on the international scene.
Second place went to High School Musical 3: Senior Year, but we will get to that film, and the rest of the top 30, on Sunday.
Additionally, the film held well in France, down 43% to $6.10 million on 813 screens over the weekend for a total of $20.13 million after two while in Sweden it was down 39% to $1.43 million on 149 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $5.33 million.
