Theater counts: The Empire Strikes Back returns to over 2,000 theaters

Once Warner Bros. has not announced a theater count for Tenet as it enters its fourth week in theaters, but it is expected to remain the widest release. Star Wars: Ep. V: The Empire Strikes Back turned 40 this year, and Disney is giving it a slightly late birthday party by releasing it this weekend nationwide in 2,097 theaters. The only new wide release this weekend is Shortcut from Gravitas Ventures, which is estimated to arrive on just over 600 screens. Infidel sees an increase in theaters this week, going from 1,724 last week, to 1,885 this week, while The New Mutants decreases theaters after debuting in late August. Reappearing in theaters this week are special showings of On the Basis of Sex, which will be playing in 829 theaters, and RBG, which is expected to be in about the same.
